The joint venture (JV) consisting of Smulders, HSM Offshore Energy and Iv-Offshore & Energy have won the tender for the Ostwind 3 offshore high voltage substation project for the German grid operator 50Hertz. The joint venture will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) of the substation and jacket.

The Ostwind 3 offshore high voltage substation is located northeast of the island of Rügen, which is about 100 kilometers off the coast of the German town of Lubmin. The substation has a planned capacity of 300 megawatts (MW), which will provide electricity for around 260,000 households. It’s the eight platform with 50Hertz involvement in the Baltic Sea. The JV has already started the engineering. Later in 2023, the prefabrication and construction of the offshore high voltage substation and jacket will take place at construction yards in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Wim Vaes, Commercial Director of Smulders says: “We are pleased that the JV has been selected by 50Hertz for the Ostwind 3 project based on the joined knowledge and extensive track records. Smulders looks forward to joining forces with HSM and Iv Offshore & Energy to successfully deliver the topside and the jacket foundation."

Hans Leerdam, Commercial Director of HSM Offshore Energy says: ‘’It gives us great pleasure to boost the energy transition together with our customer 50Hertz and partners Iv-Offshore & Energy and Smulders. The Ostwind 3 project is an important step forward in our offshore renewable growth strategy. We are delighted to combine the competences of our people in a safe manner together.’’

Fedor van Veen, Managing Director of Iv-Offshore & Energy says: “The Ostwind 3 project for 50Hertz is a next step in our cooperation with HSM Offshore Energy and Smulders. We are confident that jointly we can make this project a success!”
