Load out of the Hollandse Kust (west Alpha) substation topside

August 10th '23

The load out of the substation topside of more than 4,000 tons took place Saturday 5 August 2023 at the yard of our joint venture partner Equans in Hoboken.

The substation topside is now almost ready to set sail for its final location, approx 50 km off the Dutch coast.

The Dutch coast substation (west Alpha) is already the second platform built for TenneT. The third substation (west Beta) is under construction at the yard.

The Netherlands is aiming for 40% of its electricity needs to be generated by offshore wind farms. Our customer TenneT is establishing these power grid connections. Two out of the three substations that Smulders, in joint venture with Equans, will provide, have already been produced. Once completed, these substations will become part of the large-scale offshore wind energy power grid connections in the Dutch North Sea.
