Trial lift completed for first renovated Krammer Lock gate

2026/10/08

At our yard in Vlissingen, we successfully carried out a trial lift for the first renovated lock gate of the Krammer Locks together with our project partners. This marks an important step towards the final installation on site.

The renovation of the Krammer Locks will help make the lock operation faster and more efficient in the future. As part of the project, five existing lock gates are being extensively modified and refurbished.

A unique installation method will be used to position the first renovated gate. The roller carriages are installed first, followed by the lock gate itself. As the operation will eventually take place under water, careful preparation and precision are essential.

The trial lift in Vlissingen allowed us to test both the installation method and the collaboration between the different teams involved. This will help ensure the lock gate can be installed safely and in a controlled manner when it returns to the Krammer Locks.

Through Iemants, Smulders is contributing to this project as part of the ZEEKR joint venture, commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat.
