Smulders manufactured 76 transition pieces (TPs) for the very first wind farm of Poland, called Baltic Power. This wind farm is situated 23 km north of the Polish coastline, near Łeba and Choczewo.
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm is a joint development by ORLEN and Northland Power. We were commissioned to manufacture the transition pieces for this wind farm.
In 2024, production of the secondary steel for this project kicked off at our sites in Poland. The assembly and outfitting of the TPs took place at our site in Newcastle, UK. Haizea Bilbao produced the primary steel at its facility in Bilbao.
Early 2025, we were able to carry out the first load-outs safely and successfully. In the meantime, all the monopiles and transition pieces have been installed offshore.
The wind farm will generate a total of 1.2 GW, enough to meet the annual electricity consumption of more than 1.5 million households.
