Transformers installed on the Bałtyk 2 substation topside
On Saturday, May 30, two transformers were successfully installed in the Bałtyk 2 substation topside at our yard in Vlissingen. Each unit was safely lifted into place and features a capacity of 380 MVA and a weight of approximately 300 tonnes.
This milestone marks an important step towards completing the high-voltage (HV) systems of the offshore substation. The transformers will convert and prepare the electricity generated by the 50 wind turbines of Bałtyk 2 for transmission to the Polish mainland.

The Bałtyk 2 & 3 offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea are being developed by Equinor and Polenergia. Each project will have an installed capacity of 720 MW, bringing the combined total to 1,440 MW. Smulders is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of both offshore substations, including topsides and jackets. In addition, Smulders is manufacturing 2 x 50 transition pieces together with Sif.
