Iemants contributes to new Merwede bridge on the A27
The Merwede bridge on the A27, between Utrecht and Breda, has reached the end of its lifespan. It will be replaced by two new parallel bridges: a west bridge and, if all goes as planned, an east bridge at a later stage.
Iemants is contributing to the construction of the west bridges.
The project includes both a fixed arch bridge (approx. 7,400 tonnes) of 258.8 metres long, 41 metres high and 33 metres wide, as well as a movable bridge (approx. 840 tonnes) measuring 53 metres by 29 metres.
We’ll build both bridges in Arendonk, Balen and Hoboken or Vlissingen.
The project is commissioned by ALSÉÉN (a consortium of Ballast Nedam and Fluor), with Rijkswaterstaat as the end client. What should this lead to: a new bridge future-proof – a major, visible and tangible investment in Dutch mobility.
