Inch Cape OTM and jacket set sail from Smulders’ Newcastle yard
Smulders has reached a major milestone with the successful load out and sail out of the Offshore Transformer Module (OTM®) and its jacket foundation for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm. Both structures were fabricated at our yard in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne.
The barge arrived early July, with the topside loaded out on 5 July. The jacket foundation followed a week later, completing its load out in mid-July. The sail out of both structures marks the final step before offshore installation begins.
This project features the first double OTM®. The platform, weighing just under 3,000 tonnes, and the 68-metre-tall jacket foundation are key components of the 1.1 GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, located 15 km off the coast of Angus, Scotland. Once operational, the wind farm will supply clean energy to up to 1.7 million UK homes.
This achievement is the result of a strong collaboration between Smulders and Siemens Energy. Together, we’ve combined engineering excellence and project execution to deliver critical infrastructure that supports the UK’s renewable energy goals.
