HSI Joint Venture completes 900-tonne cable deck lift for Zingst Offshore Substation in Schiedam

2026/03/17

The HSI Joint Venture, comprising Smulders HSM (formed mid last year through the integration of HSM Offshore Energy and Smulders) and Iv, has successfully completed the cable deck lift for the Zingst Offshore Substation (OSS) jacket for 50Hertz at the Smulders HSM yard in Schiedam.

During the operation, the 900-tonne cable deck (measuring 34 x 56 metres) was safely lifted and installed on top of the jacket, representing a key structural integration milestone for the offshore substation. The lift was executed following detailed engineering, careful planning, and close coordination between the joint venture teams and heavy-lift specialists, with safety and precision as the guiding priorities throughout.

The jacket foundation, weighing 3,700 metric tonnes and measuring 40 x 28 x 33 metres (L x W x H), provides the primary structural support for the offshore platform. With the cable deck successfully installed, the project progresses into the next phases of integration and completion in preparation for the load-out later this year.

The Zingst Offshore Substation is being delivered under an EPCIC contract by the HSI Joint Venture, demonstrating the combined offshore engineering, fabrication, and integration capabilities of Smulders HSM and Iv in support of 50Hertz’s offshore grid connection programme.

About the Gennaker Projects

Located in the German Baltic Sea, the OST-6-1 offshore grid connection has a transmission capacity of 927 MW. Its two substations, Zingst and Darß, will connect the Gennaker Offshore Windfarm to the 50Hertz transmission grid, strengthening regional energy capacity and support climate targets in Northern Europe.
